Organ transport

Worldwide approximately 60.000 organ transplantations were carried out in 1999, 50 % in the USA, 35 % in Europe, and 15 % in the remainder of the world. The transplantation market grows yearly, with an increase of 6 % in the USA and 10 % in Europe and the rest of the world. 65 % of transplantation are kidneys, 10 % hearts, and 25 % are various organs such as liver, lungs, and pancreas.

The need for transplantation lies considerably higher and would be easily covered by OP-capacity. The limiting factor is the small number of donated organs and in addition that an organ must be transplanted within 4-10 hours, which is an extremely small time span. Careful matching of donater and recipient is difficult due to the small timme frame available and an exchange is not possible over long distances and continents. The quality of the organ can additionally lowered due to the ice cooling needed for transport.

Problem solution:

An oxygen carrying solution, which allows to extend the time span to 24-70 hours. Named solution is currently in the advanced stages of development.

Heart 24h

Liver 40h

Kidney 70h
