Tumor research

In Germany approximately 120.000 operations are carried out on primary tumors on a varitey of indications. There has been a substantial increase in the last few years because of serologic markers that help in the early diagnosis of disease. Usually the removed tumor is left to the pantholgy department, where the tumor is analyzed. A small amount is stored in paraffin and archived. The rest is discarded. Oncoscience‘s goal is to conservate the discarded portion for the patient.

The idea in this is to use future knowledge in cancer research, diagnostic, and therapy for the well being of the patient. This is justified because patients with early operated mamma-, prostate-, or colon-cancer have long life times and new medical developments can be used.
